Design Inspirations from Octaspring CEO Kym Bramm

Kym Bramm OctaspringOctaspring CEO, Kym Bramm, has a passion for design and inspiration. Kym is queen of the cut-out article, the snatched photo on the Blackberry, and a serial collecter of interiors and design magazines.

-

We’re going to attempt to capture and share some of these amazing inspirations from her clippings collections. Many of these inspirations find their way into her house and, very usefully for us, into Octaspring photo shoots (the flamingo chair on our homepage? Kym’s). We plan to create a special board for these on Pinterest so watch this space!

How to choose the right mattress

Long term sleep problems can lead to long term health problems.

-

Last year, in some research commissioned by Dormeo Octaspring, we discovered that  a staggering 58% of people in the UK feel that they do not get a good night’s sleep.

-

Only a supportive mattress can give you deep, restorative rest. This video will tell you more, and crucially will help you do the right things when choosing your next mattress.

The Dormeo Octaspring memory foam spring mattress provides you with quality support and optimum spinal alignment.

Sleep Cycle iPhone App – Review

tiredDo you ever have days when you feel it’s just too early to get up, even though you’ve had a good 8 hours sleep? While on other days you wake up and feel unstoppable?

-

And how long do you snooze for… how long SHOULD you snooze for?

-

There’s a new App some of us here at Octaspring Towers are quite excited about, as we’re finding it’s absolutely perfect for easing you gently into the day.

-

Sleep Cycle AppCertainly, sleeping on an Octaspring mattress will deliver you the “unstoppable” feeling, but there are other tips and techniques you can employ to bring you the best possible start to the day. We’ve been testing one of them… The Sleep Cycle Alarm Clock App

-

When you feel groggy, beaten-up and sleep-deprived, it may well be because you’ve been rudely awoken by your alarm at the wrong time in your sleep cycle.

-

The time you spend in deep REM sleep is the time when your body is really recovering. That’s the sleep you need, and that’s what we Octaspringers specialise in bringing you (plug, plug!). If the inevitable morning “DING-A-LING-A-LING!” happens during your deep REM sleep, it’s rather akin to being slapped upside the head with a wet fish, while a junior school recorder band marches past. You’re quite literally *shocked* awake.

-

iPhone PositionWhat Sleep Cycle does is monitor your body’s movements as you sleep. The deeper you’re sleeping, the stiller you are, and it knows not to wake you. Before going to bed you will have given the app a 20 minute window in which to wake you, and when it judges you are in the lightest sleep phase, that’s when the alarm will gently sound, gently easing you from your slumber like a cool breeze on a summer morn. (Hark at me, with my poetry boots on!)

-

Sleep GraphWhat’s also great about it is that Sleep Cycle will chart your sleep, showing in graphs how you’ve slept, delivering you a percentage rating. You can go back months if you wish, charting the quality your sleep over a longer period. This particular correspondent’s charts made for some alarming reading around the time of the birth of his first child!

-

The path to more alert days and deeper sleep should always start with your mattress, but there are a number of things you can do to drive your sleep performance into an even better place, and this app is just one of them.

-

Time Went to BedAs Sleep Cycle works around capturing the body’s motion we’d love to carry out some research into how it works around movement and deep sleep on different mattress types. Our tests have shown that Octaspring puts you into a deeper sleep than Memory Foam or Metal Spring mattresses, due to better heat regulation and lack of pressure points respectively, and we’re desperate to try this app out on the other mattresses. The only problem is… nobody wants to go back to sleeping on one of those old bangers!

Time in Bed per WeekdayProduct Summary: The Octaspring blog is delighted to confer the coveted “Highly Recommended!” status on Sleep Cycle App.

Why sleep is vital for a healthy lifestyle – an Octaspring survey

Sleep and HealthSleep is an unavoidably vitally important aspect of life. We need rest in order to restore our bodies and maintain our cognitive powers. Put simply, good sleep is essential.

-

A lot of us would admit that we do not receive enough sleep in our hectic lives, which is why we crave that Sunday morning lie-in. This week, we asked Octaspring fans on our Facebook page how many hours of sleep they receive over the weekend. We got a great response, and our findings are quite encouraging.

-

Generally, experts recommended that we receive at least 7 hours of sleep a night in order for our bodies to undertake restorative ‘maintenance’. That would amount to roughly 14 hours of sleep during the course of a weekend.

-

The vast majority of you revealed that you receive 15-19 hours of sleep at the weekend and only a small minority received less than 14 hours. Thankfully, nobody stated that they receive a paltry 8 hours of sleep or less and, somewhat unsurprisingly, none of those who took part in our poll received more than a mammoth 20 hours of sleep.

-

Studies have shown that those who receive less than 7 hours of sleep a night disadvantage themselves and become more susceptible to a variety of health risks.

-

Chief among these is obesity.

-

Studies have shown that those who receive between six and eight hours of sleep a night had a greater chance of achieving their desired weight loss goal than those who slept for more or less.

-

The research found that people who only receive between two and four hours of sleep a night are 73% more likely to be obese than normal sleepers, compared to 23% for those who sleep for six hours on average.

-

In addition to that, sleep deprivation is a contributing factor to the development of diabetes. A lack of sleep can severely alter blood sugar levels and impairs the ability of cells to respond to insulin, the key hormone closely linked to diabetes which monitors your metabolism.

-

Alarmingly, research has also found a connection between a lack of sleep and breast cancer.

-

Studying data of 24,000 women, researchers discovered that those who slept fewer than 6 hours a night had a 63% higher chance of developing breast cancer. Contrastingly, those who slept for more than 9 hours a night had a 28% lower risk of developing the disease.

-

Therefore, it is vital that we receive the recommended levels of sleep. Apart from needing those extra hours in order to get through our increasingly busy schedules, those additional minutes under the duvet might just be saving your life.

Octaspring: Sleep Is Beautiful Anywhere (Video)

Octaspring last week took to the streets of London to celebrate the end of National Sleep Month and make a fun video, showing that Sleep Is Beautiful Anywhere… as long as it’s on an Octaspring mattress. We also wanted to tie the video in with some research we’d carried out into the sleeping habits of people in the UK. You can find the Octaspring sleep study findings here.

We had great fun making it (despite the early start), and didn’t get into TOO much trouble. To see the interesting results of our Sleep Research, go here.

Octaspring Sleep Survey – Where’s the strangest place you’ve ever fallen asleep?

To celebrate the end of this year’s National Sleep Month, Octaspring commissioned a sleep survey polling 3,000 UK residents, looking into the strangest and most wacky places people have slept.

Octaspring, Sleep Survey

Very few people make the connection between mattress quality and sleep quality, and how it impacts their ability to live life to the full, rather than constantly being on the edge of a snooze. That person asleep in public – it could be you!” says John Bramm, Managing Director of Dormeo Octaspring UK.

A mystery mattress in Central London?

Last week we took to the streets of Central London to shoot a video celebrating National Bed Month. This was the first shot of the day, taken very early in the morning on the Embankment. No mean feat, considering how close it was to Westminster, and it was Budget Day! For more pictures and video watch this space or follow Octaspring on Facebook!
